Dr. Bart graduated from the University of Ghent, Belgium, in 2018. During his final years at university, he decided to pursue a career in equine medicine and surgery. After working for a year at one of the leading equine clinics in the Netherlands, Paardenkliniek Hollands Kroon, Bart was fortunate enough to join the University of Liverpool. There, he completed a 13-month internship, further specializing in equine medicine and surgery while teaching final year students at the university. Before moving to the University of Pretoria, Bart returned to the same clinic in the Netherlands for another year during the COVID pandemic. His work at the University of Pretoria allowed him to learn about a wide variety of wildlife species. He was able to hone his knowledge of African wildlife species and working in and around various zoos in and around Pretoria and Johannesburg exposed him to an even wider variety of exotic species, including tigers, lemurs, bird species and many more. As a specialist, Bart published several papers on cheetah pyometra and vasectomy in lions. His most recent research, on the immobilization of the black rhinoceros, will be published soon. The latter project led Bart to his current position at WildScapes Veterinary and Conservation Services in Hoedspruit. He is currently working with wildlife species, zoo collections and some horses in and around Hoedspruit, South Africa. Bart is available for international work or consultation whenever possible; his most recent trip was to Thailand to advise on giraffe issues. and cheetahs in captivity.
